Flood of '08

Just like in 1993, Iowa City is flooded again! Last night the water was suppose to rise above the spillway, sending uncontrolled water downstream and wreaking havoc as it goes...but it didn't. As I watched the news this morning though, it is just inches away from going over so the experts are saying its a matter of "when" and not "if."

We have not had any water in our basement yet (praise God) since we have a sump pump, so as long as we keep power we should be ok.

Our church is in the low lying area around the Iowa River so they have been sandbagging like crazy trying to get it ready for the water. The parking lot has been underwater for a few days. When we were there Sunday it was about 1/2 under and then rain started while we were in church and by the end of the service, they wanted us out so no one would get stuck. One of the roads leading into church (and the main road into town from the Interstate) has been closed since last week.

I will post some pics when I get some! Until then you can check out the sandbagging pics on Parkview's website here.
